Royal Victoria Hall, Southborough – Labour calls for public consultation

Public consultation should be more than window dressing

The Victoria Hall, Southborough is due to close on January 5, 2015, as part of plans to design a new town ‘hub’.

The 3 Labour Councillors for Southborough and High Brooms are calling for a further public consultation on the closure of the venue and the future of plans for the new town hub which have been developed by Southborough Town, Tunbridge Wells Borough, and Kent County Councils.

Labour group Leader, Cllr Dianne Hill, thinks there has been too much secrecy about development of the hub and that the views of local residents are being deliberately ignored. She feels that any public consultation should be genuine and more than just window dressing.

‘I think there will have to be a public consultation if people put enough pressure on – they have said there will be one but it will probably be about the colour of the walls……’
